How to Uninstall a Shopify App: Billing and Store Checks

Published by: Fashion Dropshipping · Research method

Updated 8 October 2026 · Based on Shopify documentation; no hands-on app removal or supplier migration tests.

To uninstall a Shopify app, go to Settings → Apps, open its menu and select Uninstall. Prepare first: identify the work it performs, save needed data and check billing. Removal can affect your store's features and does not cancel every type of charge.

If you are still planning your first clothing store, start a Shopify trial when you are ready to build. Check the current offer and regular billing terms. An existing store usually needs an app review rather than a new store.

Prepare before uninstalling an app

Write down the app's job and what will replace it, if anything. A display widget and a supplier connection have different dependencies. Our suggested preparation record has five parts:

  1. Job: list the pages, messages or processes that use the app. For a size-chart tool, identify the garments and variants that depend on its measurements.
  2. Open work: list pending orders, refunds, tracking updates or customer requests you still need to handle. Assign a way to complete each one after the change.
  3. Saved data: identify information held only inside the app, such as review records, chart content or settings. Check its export instructions and open the saved file to confirm it contains what you need.
  4. Theme copy: before theme edits, use Shopify's theme duplication instructions to save a copy. A theme copy is not a full backup of your store or the developer's app data. Review Shopify's store backup guidance for separate exports.
  5. Timing and owner: record who will remove the app, verify the result and handle any issue. Choose a time when you can complete those checks.

For a store that has not launched, mark order-related items “no live orders yet” where accurate. Still save useful configuration and check your draft product pages. You do not need to install a replacement just because you removed an optional feature.

Check app billing separately from removal

Shopify says uninstalling stops future app billing cycles but can leave an already generated charge. Apps billed outside Shopify require cancellation with the developer. Refunds or credits for third-party app charges are handled by the developer. See Shopify's app billing explanation.

Before removal, save the plan name, charge amount, billing interval, trial deadline, renewal date and cancellation route. Afterward, record the uninstall date and any external cancellation confirmation. Compare the next bill with that record rather than assuming a missing app means a zero balance.

If you disagree with a charge, give the developer the relevant invoice, amount and dates and explain the issue. Keep their response with your records. A cancellation request and a refund request are separate tasks.

How to uninstall a Shopify app

Shopify's current removal instructions cover these steps and additional considerations. Some integrations appear under Sales channels instead of Apps; use the relevant channel instructions if that is where yours appears.

  1. Open the intended store's Shopify admin and go to Settings → Apps.
  2. Find the app, open its menu and select Uninstall.
  3. Optionally choose a removal reason, then confirm Uninstall.

Shopify notes that some apps need extra theme cleanup or inventory transfer/deletion at an app location. Follow the app's documented process; dependent features stop working, and reinstalling might not restore settings or data.

For theme cleanup, get exact instructions from the developer. Removing code solely because it contains an app's name can affect another function. Identify the specific file and change, work from a theme copy and compare the result before publishing. If the instructions are unclear, ask for help rather than guessing which snippets to delete.

Before removing a supplier connection

A supplier app is part of an order workflow. Treat the handover as a separate task from clicking Uninstall. Ask the supplier how disconnection affects imported products, stock updates, unpaid orders, fulfillment, tracking and returns for your account.

If you are considering Trendsi, first check its fit using the beginner connection guide and supplier evaluation guide. You can visit Trendsi to review account options. This is a candidate to evaluate; we have not tested migration, fulfillment or product quality, and installing it does not resolve the previous supplier's open work.

Check the clothing store after removal

Use the same representative garment before and after the change. Keep its page URL and screenshots with the app record so you can compare what customers see. Our suggested checks are:

  1. Product page: inspect images, description, measurements, size choices, price and availability. Replace missing measurement content before customers need it.
  2. Cart and order path: check variant selection, quantity changes and cart behavior. Use the documented test-order process for any affected checkout or fulfillment function.
  3. Mobile and language: inspect the changed pages and messages on a phone and in every published language. Check empty widget spaces, broken labels and hidden controls.
  4. Supplier workflow: verify the intended connection, stock-update method, order responsibility and tracking route against your handover record.
  5. Content and measurement: compare any app-managed page content, redirects or product markup you depended on. Measure page behavior using the same method as before; removal alone does not establish faster loading, better rankings or higher sales.

If a needed feature is missing, identify the task and choose a documented way to restore it. A saved theme cannot recreate a disconnected service. Finish the checks before treating the change as complete.

Questions about uninstalling Shopify apps

Does uninstalling a Shopify app cancel every charge?

No. Future Shopify app billing cycles stop, but an already generated charge can remain. Cancel externally billed subscriptions with the developer and check the next bill.

Does app removal delete all theme code?

Not always. Follow the developer's specific cleanup instructions; do not delete code merely because it contains an app name.

Can I reinstall an app and recover its previous setup?

Reinstallation might not restore previous settings or data. Save what you need and check the developer's recovery process before removal.

What should I record before removing a supplier app?

Record open orders, tracking responsibilities, retained products and the returns process for previous purchases. Ask the supplier how disconnection affects each item before changing the connection.

What should a store with no live orders check?

Save useful settings and inspect draft product pages, size choices, measurements and cart behavior. If you have no live orders, note that in the handover record.

Will removing apps improve my Google rankings?

There is no guaranteed ranking improvement. Compare the content and page behavior affected by the app, resolve missing features and evaluate any performance change using the same measurement method.
