Shopify App Store: Choose and Install Apps for a Clothing Store

The Shopify App Store is a marketplace for integrations that add functions to your store. For a first clothing dropshipping business, start with a specific job: connecting a supplier, showing garment measurements or handling customer questions. Compare the app's fit, access and total cost before installing.

Start a Shopify trial when you are ready to build your store. Check the current offer and regular subscription terms. You can work through this guide before signing up.

Define the job before choosing an app

Write one sentence describing the result you need. “Customers can see a measurement chart for this dress in centimeters” is more useful than “make the store professional.” Check whether your existing theme or Shopify settings already do the job. An app should fill an identified gap.

Connect a clothing supplier
Specify your business location, customer destination and intended collection first. If Trendsi fits those requirements, follow the Trendsi setup guide. A successful installation does not establish product quality, delivery reliability or returns eligibility.
Explain size and fit
Identify the supplier measurements you actually have. Decide how to present units, garment versus body measurements and variant-specific charts. A sizing app cannot make missing measurements accurate.
Answer customer questions
Write delivery and returns information before adding a chat widget. Decide who will respond and when; a widget alone does not provide support.
Collect product reviews
Plan to request genuine feedback after purchases. A new store does not need invented reviews to fill an empty widget.

Compare listings against your store requirements

Search the App Store by feature, app name or category. Shopify also offers a Built for Shopify filter and labels paid placements “Ad.” Review the official guidance on finding and choosing apps. A badge or rating is a useful signal; our recommendation is to verify your own requirements before choosing.

There is no review-count threshold that proves an app is safe or suitable. If two apps seem similar, compare the required feature, the cost at your expected usage and the work needed to remove each one.

Write down app costs before accepting a plan

Shopify documents recurring, usage-based and one-time app charges. Some developers bill outside Shopify. Uninstalling can leave an already generated charge, and externally billed subscriptions require cancellation with the developer. See Shopify's explanation of app billing.

For each shortlisted app, record: the job, plan name, trial end date, billing interval, recurring fee, usage rule, spending limit if available, external charges and cancellation route. Set a calendar reminder before a trial or renewal you intend to cancel.

Illustrative budget, not a quoted app offer: a tool at $12 every 30 days costs $36 across three billing cycles before tax. If it also charges $0.05 per processed item and you process 100 items in each cycle, usage adds $15 across those cycles, for $51 total. Replace both rates and quantities with the listing's real terms; annual commitments and other charges can change the cash required.

Add that amount to your Shopify subscription, supplier product costs, shipping and other launch expenses. Use the store cost calculator for the product economics and budget app subscriptions separately. A free app plan does not make running the store free.

Install an App Store app and review its access

Shopify's current App Store installation instructions use the Install button. Configuration after installation depends on the app; there is no universal five-minute setup.

  1. Log in to the Shopify App Store and open the listing you have evaluated. Confirm that you are connecting the intended store.
  2. Select Install. On the installation screen, expand the requested personal-data and store-data access and read the developer's privacy policy. If you cannot explain the requested access for your use case, ask the developer before proceeding.
  3. If the access and terms fit your requirements, select Install to authorize the app. Review any separate paid-plan approval before accepting it.
  4. Open the app from your Shopify admin and follow its configuration instructions. Connect required accounts, select the intended settings and activate any documented theme block or embed needed for the feature.

You can review installed-app permissions and billing from the app's about page in Settings → Apps. Shopify describes the available information in its app management guide. Installing and configuring an app are separate decisions from launching the store to customers.

Check the result before launch

Keep a short record of the app, plan, configuration date and outcome. Change one app at a time so you can trace a problem to the change. These are checks you can perform, not results we have obtained:

  1. Confirm the job: open a draft clothing product and verify the exact feature you specified. For a chart, check units, the chosen variant and readable placement near the size selector.
  2. Check mobile and languages: inspect product, cart and relevant messages on a phone and in each published language. Look for overlapping buttons, untranslated labels and obstructed size choices.
  3. Check existing functions: verify navigation, variant selection and cart behavior after the change. For an app involved in orders, follow the documented test workflow before accepting live purchases.
  4. Compare page behavior: use the same product page and measurement method before and after the installation. Investigate a new delay or broken element; app count alone does not tell you which integration is responsible.
  5. Check the bill and exit route: confirm the selected plan, trial deadline, usage settings and saved export or removal instructions. Decide whether the completed job justifies the ongoing cost.

For a supplier connection, also verify your chosen garment's measurements, stock, destination availability, shipping cost and return conditions. Follow the supplier evaluation guide; reviewing documentation and imported products does not replace evidence from fulfillment.

If an app does not fit, plan its removal

Save needed data and check dependent workflows before removing an app. Shopify notes that some apps leave theme code or manage inventory at app locations, so follow the developer's additional steps where applicable. Read Shopify's uninstall considerations and confirm any external subscription cancellation separately.

If an app delivered the feature but duplicated an existing tool, choose which tool you will keep. If the task remains unresolved, revise the requirement before trying another app.

Continue building your first clothing store

Return to the beginner store-building guide for the overall launch sequence. When your supplier requirements fit, continue with connecting Trendsi. Finish the product, shipping and returns work before using optional apps to add more features.

Shopify App Store questions for beginners

What is the Shopify App Store?

It is a marketplace for store integrations. Use it to find an app for a defined task, then evaluate the listing, charges, access and compatibility before installing.

Which app should a clothing dropshipping beginner install first?

Start with the unresolved job in your store. If you need a supplier connection, first check your business location, customer destination and collection requirements. Optional marketing or display apps can wait until you have a clear need.

Does a high app rating guarantee that it will work for my store?

No. Read detailed feedback about a similar workflow and check your own theme, language, destination and feature requirements. A rating does not establish your installation outcome or supplier reliability.

Are Shopify App Store apps free?

Some have free plans or trials, while others charge recurring, usage-based or one-time fees. Check the required features and billing terms; a free app does not cover the other costs of running a store.

Can I review an installed app's permissions and billing?

Yes. Open the app's about page in Settings → Apps to review the available access and billing information. Contact the developer if the requested data or a charge is unclear.

Will uninstalling an app cancel every charge?

No. An already generated charge can remain, and external subscriptions need separate cancellation with the developer. Save needed data and check the documented removal steps before uninstalling.
